Every month, Sarah’s Inn nominates a volunteer to be our Volunteer of The Month. Lynn Ellis was nominated as July's Volunteer of The Month. Lynn joined the Sarah’s Inn team in 2020. Our Volunteer and In-Kind Coordinator, Ebony, asked Lynn about her experiences as a volunteer.

1. How long have you been volunteering with us, and how did you hear about Sarah’s Inn?

I’ve been with Sarah’s since 2020; after learning about it through a W.I.N.G.S fundraiser at a previous employer.

2. What have you enjoyed about volunteering with Sarah’s Inn.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to support our clients; and I love that Sarah’s offers resources for safe, healthy transitions.

3. Every month, you take on multiple crisis line shifts. How do you find ways to fit volunteering into your schedule?

Volunteering on the Crisis Line is a way of honoring my family’s commitment to ending domestic violence. It’s a priority; and I create space in my day to be ready to meet each caller with care. Thinking of the time as a passive, but intentional commitment, makes it easier to schedule.

4. Some people may find it difficult to balance working, volunteering, and their personal lives.  Why do you think it’s important for folks to find the time to volunteer?

I believe we make time for what matters to us and actions reflect values. Taking time for others is a meaningful way to contribute.  Volunteering offers a chance to give help, be hopeful, and ultimately be a part of shaping a better community.

5. Why should people volunteer at Sarah’s Inn?

Sarah’s Inn is an outstanding organization with decades of community partnerships, offering counseling, legal aid and training.  I’m honored to be a Sarah’s Inn volunteer.

Thank you, Lynn, for volunteering with Sarah’s Inn! If you are interested in volunteering, the best ways to get involved are by emailing volunteering@sarahsinn.org or filling out a volunteer application, where you will be able to learn more about volunteering opportunities that are available to you.
